Thursday 31 March 2011

Sharon Fellows, ACT Curriculum Executive Officer

Discussion points at the meeting

  • Current planning template is a modified version of Primary Connections. This caters for the 1-2 lessons per week in Terms 1, 2 and 4 and the Inquiry focus in Term 3.
  • Modified and extended questions and tasks
  • Modified and extended questions can be generated by the students throughout the term
  • For 1-2 lessons per week the 5 E's model works
  • Add some assessment
  • For the next visit, the units of work will be examined with the QTM lens. Primary Connections was written with the QTM model. Where the Primary Connections falls down is it doesn't explain why it is important to learn. We need to unpack why it is of value to the students, the connections they make with science to the world.
  • Sharon will email lead school check-list to Cymantha
  • What DET is hoping is that other schools can pick up the units and look at assessment, look at unit and work samples.
  • How do the students know what explicit quality criteria looks like? Do they know how to get a really good grade? Do we give the feedback on what they are doing?
